The Best Uses for a Hanging Projection Screen

Friday, December 29th, 2006

When choosing the type of mounting method to use for mounting a projection screen a person needs to consider the way they will use it.  The mounting method of hanging means that the screen is needs a surface to hang on and is either permanently or semi-permanently mounted.

Choosing to use the hanging method to mount projection screens is best in only a select environments.  A hanging screen is going to be attached to a wall, in most cases.  The screen will either be permanently open and ready for use or it may be retractable, so that it can be rolled up when not in use.  However, in both cases the screen is always out in the open and that makes it vulnerable.

The best use for a hanging projection screen is in an environment where the screen is going to be used regularly.  It should be in a room where people are going to be seated and not moving around the screen a lot.  This will help keep the screen from being damaged.  A hanging screen is very convenient, though, for places where it will be used often as it is ready for use at any time.  A couple good examples of where hanging screens are best used are in a classroom or church.  In both cases, people are going to usually be kept away form the screen and the screen will be used often.

The hanging mounting method is best for screens that will be used regularly.   The screen is always out in the open and used in a busy environment could get damaged easily.  A hanging screen is usually used in places where the traffic is kept to a minimum.

About Hanging Projection Screens

Tuesday, December 26th, 2006

Mounting orientations for projection screens vary.  There are different types that are better for certain uses and each type has its own characteristics that make it better suited to certain environments than other mounting orientations.  Hanging projection screens are one such mounting method that has some unique characteristics.

Hanging projection screens are mounted on a wall or other secure base.  Hanging screens are most likely to be used in situations where the screen is used on a regular basis. This is because the screen is usually difficult to take up and down.

There are two types of hanging screens.  One type is permanently mounted, most often to a wall.  This screen is attached to a frame and never moves from the ready position.  The other type of hanging screen is a retractable screen.  This type of screen is also mounted to a wall or other surface, but can be rolled up when not in use.  Both types of screens are meant to be used in the same place every time, but retractable screens also allow for the screen to be stored away when not in use.

Hanging projection screen mounting is good for places like classrooms or meeting rooms, where the screen is going to get a lot of use.  In places where there are a lot of people who are moving about, a retractable hanging screen may be a better choice than a permanent screen, as being able to store it away will help to protect it from damage.

Cleaning Contrast Grey Projection Screens

Saturday, December 23rd, 2006

Despite even the most careful care a person will find that at some point their contrast grey projection screens will need to be cleaned.  Cleaning a contrast grey projection screen is not difficult, but it is important for a person to understand the basics of how to safely clean their screen.  Understanding the basics of how to clean the screen will prevent any damage to the screen that can result from cleaning.

A contrast grey projection screen is usually made of a vinyl material with a grey backing.  It is important to clean only the front and simply do a dry wiping of the backing.  This will just aid in preserving the screen life.  These screen are mildew resistant, which means that they can be air dried easily without concern.  The screen should be wiped down with a soapy wash.  Mild soap is best as it contains nothing harsh that can scratch or otherwise
damage the screen.  It is also wise to use a soft rag or sponge to clean the screen.  Using anything harsh can weaken the screen or cause scratches, which will effect the performance of the screen.

As long as contrast grey projection screens are kept stored and not handled too much, cleaning should only need to be done occasionally.  If a person takes the above advice and avoids anything that can be harsh to the screen, they should have no trouble cleaning it.  Cleaning is important to keep images crisp and clear, which is why it is important, but cleaning the wrong way can cause more harm than good.
