Getting High Tech With Motorized Projection Screens

Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007

Motorized projection screens are a type of hanging projection screen.  They are a permanent fixture, but unlike mounted or pull down screens they offer more diversity.  They come in a range of styles that make incorporating them into a room simple.

One of the perks of a motorized projection screen is that they are operated by a motor instead of pulled down manually.  This allows them to be discreetly hidden and allows for a larger, heavier screen to be used.  Motorized projection screens can be mounted on a wall, hidden in a ceiling or in the floor.  Since they do not require manually pulling to open them, they can be flush with the ceiling or floor which makes them almost hidden out of sight when not in use.

Motorized projections screens are usually controlled by a remote that opens the screen with a push of a button.  The screen’s motor mechanism then opens the screen, slowly.  The remote can also be used to lower the screen.  They are simple to operate and use, once installed.  Installation will most likely have to be done by a professional who can set up the electrical system and ensure everything is installed properly.

Motorize projection screens are one of the most expensive types of projection screens.  They also require routine maintenance to ensure they open and close smoothly.  Like any projection screen they must also be cleaned and cared for on a regular basis to ensure they are clean.  They make a great addition to a boardroom or home theater and can be quite dramatic when raised to begin a presentation.

The Best Uses for a Hanging Projection Screen

Friday, December 29th, 2006

When choosing the type of mounting method to use for mounting a projection screen a person needs to consider the way they will use it.  The mounting method of hanging means that the screen is needs a surface to hang on and is either permanently or semi-permanently mounted.

Choosing to use the hanging method to mount projection screens is best in only a select environments.  A hanging screen is going to be attached to a wall, in most cases.  The screen will either be permanently open and ready for use or it may be retractable, so that it can be rolled up when not in use.  However, in both cases the screen is always out in the open and that makes it vulnerable.

The best use for a hanging projection screen is in an environment where the screen is going to be used regularly.  It should be in a room where people are going to be seated and not moving around the screen a lot.  This will help keep the screen from being damaged.  A hanging screen is very convenient, though, for places where it will be used often as it is ready for use at any time.  A couple good examples of where hanging screens are best used are in a classroom or church.  In both cases, people are going to usually be kept away form the screen and the screen will be used often.

The hanging mounting method is best for screens that will be used regularly.   The screen is always out in the open and used in a busy environment could get damaged easily.  A hanging screen is usually used in places where the traffic is kept to a minimum.

About Hanging Projection Screens

Mounting orientations for projection screens vary.  There are different types that are better for certain uses and each type has its own characteristics that make it better suited to certain environments than other mounting orientations.  Hanging projection screens are one such mounting method that has some unique characteristics.

Hanging projection screens are mounted on a wall or other secure base.  Hanging screens are most likely to be used in situations where the screen is used on a regular basis. This is because the screen is usually difficult to take up and down.

There are two types of hanging screens.  One type is permanently mounted, most often to a wall.  This screen is attached to a frame and never moves from the ready position.  The other type of hanging screen is a retractable screen.  This type of screen is also mounted to a wall or other surface, but can be rolled up when not in use.  Both types of screens are meant to be used in the same place every time, but retractable screens also allow for the screen to be stored away when not in use.

Hanging projection screen mounting is good for places like classrooms or meeting rooms, where the screen is going to get a lot of use.  In places where there are a lot of people who are moving about, a retractable hanging screen may be a better choice than a permanent screen, as being able to store it away will help to protect it from damage.
