A Brief Overview of High Gain Screens
The measure of light reflected from a projection screen is called gain. All projection screens have a gain value assigned to them. Screen gain varies according to the materials used in manufacturing.
High gain screens need to be cared for as a person would any other projection screen. It should be wiped down according to the manufacturers directions. Care is largely dependent upon the material of which the screen is made. Some materials can be cleaned with a damp cloth, while others can only be cleaned with a dry cloth. It is important to always follow the manufacturers directions so the screen is not scratched or damaged during cleaning.
High gain screens can be used in many settings from home theater to classroom. However, it is essential that a person chooses the right type of high gain screen to use in their particular situation. Typically, the higher the gain, the more narrow the viewing angle. So high gain screens are commonly used in uncontrolled lighting situations and where viewers are positioned in areas more toward the front surface of the screen and not at the sides of the room.
